Oriented Strand Board
An oriented strand board (OSB) mill produces a structural panel from strands that are primarily cut from small diameter aspen or poplar logs. The process involves a machine called a strander, which uses a ring of rotating knives to produce the thin wafer—strands—and a hydraulic press, together with heat and adhesives, to form the panel. Hydraulic components and systems are used in a very precise manner for both positioning and for force control. Learn a few basic OSB hydraulic sub-systems from the circuit simulations in this session.
